Earthquake rocked Jogja in Central Java

Earthquake with 5.9 magnitude tremblor rocked in the early on Saturday, 27 May 2006 at 05:55 WIB (Fri, 21:55GMT) in Yogyakarta in Central Java, reported by an official at Semarang Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG).

The strong earthquake struck Jogja province and reported almost all building and road were demaged, even the Adi Sucipto airport has been closed for flight.

Many thousand people were injured and at more than 3000 people were killed in Jogja. The victims evaquated to public hostpital in Jogja. Many hospital in Jogja unable to handle the injured victims. This is the second biggest disaster in Indonesia since last tsunami triggered on 26 December 2004 in Aceh.

The small followed earthqueck also rocked on 10:10 WIB, and make many people panic and escape Jogjakarta to the more secure places to Magelang in Central Java, due to any rumor about tsunami will be occur in Parang Tritis beach (pantai selatan) in Indonesia sea. Many exodus go to Solo, Magelang and Semarang, but the government official said that will be no tsunami in Yogyakarta.

Almost all hotel in Jogja also closed and the guest have been check out from Jogja. The communication infrastructures reported down, internet network and mobile phone also were down and disconnected.
Some building in Jogja Palace (Keraton Jogja) also reported has been demaged caused by this earthquake.
